AirmoVOC C6-C20 Organic Compound Analyzer

Measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in ambient air.

The airmoVOC C6-C20 system is a gas chromatograph (GC) integrated with a flame ionization detector (FID), specifically designed for the measurement of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in ambient air. The device is capable of monitoring up to 67 compounds from C6 to over C20, including VOCs, SVOCs, halogenated compounds (TO14), PAMS, and PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons).

Applications:

Environmental Monitoring:

  • Control of air pollution in both urban and non-urban areas.
  • Measurement of outdoor and indoor air, including the analysis of compounds such as BTEX, PAMS, and CE.
  • Monitoring emissions from industrial plants and production processes.

Industrial Hygiene Assessment:

  • Monitoring air quality in industrial areas and at safety boundaries (fenceline monitoring).

Specific Applications:

  • Sample analysis at wastewater treatment plants using headspace or purge and trap methods (according to standards 502-2 or 524).
  • Ambient air control in accordance with PAMS and TO14 standards.

  • Straight-Chain Alkane Analysis: From C6 (DimethylButane) to C20 (N-Eicocosane) without the need for a condensation module.

  • Online GC-MS Monitoring: Utilizes Det QMS.

  • Communication Protocols: Supports MODBUS, JBUS, or MGS1.

  • Signal Output: Provides analog output (4–20 mA or 0–10 V) or alarm signals.

  • Auxiliary Power Supply: 24 V, along with gas supply solutions such as H₂ generators and contaminant-free air for portable analyzers.

  • Multiplexer System: Supports up to 32 signal channels.

  • Purge Module: Extracts VOCs from water, enabling online VOC analysis in water.

  • Multi-Point Calibration: Utilizes devices such as CALIB MFC, XXXCYL MFC, or airmoCAL 200 MFC.

  • Control Software (developed by Chromatotec®) Allows:

    • Remote system monitoring.

    • Data archiving and traceability, including quality control (QC).

    • Configuration and control of alarm thresholds.

    • Data export via MODBUS, 4–20 mA, or 0–10 V.

    • Calculation of retention time, peak area, mass, and concentration profiles of compounds.

Operating Principle

Sampling and Pre-Concentration:

  • Uses a mass flow controller (MFC) integrated within the VISTACHROM® software to adjust the sample flow rate appropriately.
  • The sampling line is continuously heated and combined with an absorbent trap to pre-concentrate organic compounds.

Desorption and Separation of Compounds:

  • Compounds are released via thermal desorption from the trap and directly injected into a metallic capillary column (inner diameter: 0.2 mm).
  • The column is managed by a temperature gradient up to 350°C, with the H₂ carrier gas pressure regulated by a piezo valve to ensure stable gas flow.

Detection and Recording:

  • The separated compounds are detected by the FID, allowing the system to record and analyze the resulting chromatographic signals.
