Automated online analysis & monitoring of sulfur compounds: H₂S / COS / CS₂ / SO₂ / RSH

Chroma S is a fully automatic isothermal gas chromatograph specifically designed for the analysis and monitoring of sulfur compounds such as H₂S, COS, CS₂, SO₂, and RSH. This system integrates modern technologies to ensure uninterrupted analysis, delivering accurate and reliable results for various industrial and environmental applications.

Chroma S is applied in many fields:

  • Emission Monitoring: Measuring stack emissions and continuous emission monitoring (CEM) systems.

  • Ambient Air Monitoring: Assessing the quality of outdoor and urban air.

  • Wastewater Treatment: Monitoring gas emissions in wastewater treatment plants.

  • Odor Control: Applications in both gas deodorization and odorization processes.

  • Impurity Analysis: Evaluating the quality of pure gases, such as CO₂ and CH₄.

  • TRS Measurement: Assessing the Total Reduced Sulfur (TRS) compounds in gas.

Category:

The standard version of the system is capable of analyzing compounds such as SO₂, CS₂, H₂S, mercaptans (e.g., Methyl-SH, Ethyl-SH) and sulfides (e.g., DMS, DMDS, DES). Additionally, upon request, the system can be extended to analyze other compounds such as Isopropyl-SH, Terbutyl-SH, and can be configured specifically for COS (ChromaS-cos).

Operating Principles

  • Continuous Sampling: The system continuously collects samples without interruption, ensuring that analysis data is always up-to-date.

  • Sample Injection and Separation: The gas sample is injected into the chromatographic column where the components are separated based on their distinct chemical properties.

  • Temperature Control: The oven automatically adjusts to the optimal temperature for each application, maximizing the separation efficiency.

  • Dual Flame Detection: Sulfur compounds are identified using an optical sensor with a dual flame, a technique that prevents quenching and allows for automatic calibration.

Developed by Chromatotec, the VISTACHROM® software offers advanced features:

  • Remote Monitoring: Easily monitor and control the system remotely.
  • Full Traceability: Archive all data, results, and quality control (QC) parameters for complete traceability.
  • Alarm Management: Set and manage threshold alarms to quickly detect any anomalies during analysis.
  • Data Export: Supports data export via multiple protocols such as MODBUS, MGS1, or analog outputs (4-20 mA/0-10 V).

Relative Standard Deviation (RSD) – RSD < 5% for sample concentration

– RSD < 1% for retention time (over 24 hours)
