The objective of this study is to analyze the concentrations of H₂S and mercaptans in emissions from wastewater treatment plants to assess odor and toxicity risks. Chromatotec’s TRSMEDOR device offers selective analysis of these compounds with high sensitivity, achieving detection limits as low as 1 ppb, without the need for bottled gas—requiring only air or nitrogen as the carrier gas. Overview

In wastewater and solid waste treatment facilities, controlling odor and emission toxicity is critically important. Sulfur compounds, particularly H₂S (hydrogen sulfide) and Me-SH (methyl mercaptan), not only contribute to odor pollution but also pose significant health risks. The primary sulfur compounds encountered during wastewater treatment may include:

  • Methyl Mercaptan (Me-SH): Characterized by a strong odor and high toxicity.
