Chromatotec® has introduced a groundbreaking innovation: the first TRAP-GC-FID/MS system designed for continuous monitoring of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), inorganic molecules, and permanent gases. This system combines the proven trap, thermal desorption, and separation technologies used in airmoVOC analyzers (mCERTS approved) with the added power of a mass spectrometer (MS).
The combined FID (Flame Ionization Detector) and MS provide unparalleled accuracy and confidence in VOC analysis. The FID delivers precise quantification, while the MS simultaneously verifies compound identification using Chromatotec’s extensive library.
Figure 1 demonstrates the near-identical Benzene concentration measurements achieved by both detectors (mean difference of only 0.06 ppb).
The MS takes over VOC quantification when the FID signal saturates. This robust system quantifies and identifies VOCs across a vast range, from ppt levels to percent concentrations. The MS also handles quantification and identification of permanent gases (O2, N2, CO2, Ar, He, etc.) and inorganic molecules. With this system, trends in VOCs, halogenated compounds, and permanent gas concentrations are automatically generated.
Chromatotec’s Vistachrom software ensures all data is time-stamped and recorded on an industrial computer. The system boasts complete autonomy thanks to integrated gas generators (H2 and air). Additionally, remote control is enabled via internet connection. Automatic calibration of both FID and MS is achieved through a built-in calibration system.
This innovative system has proven its worth in process monitoring and optimization. It empowers non-specialists to access high-level analytical information. Furthermore, the system is cost-effective, mCERTS approved, and designed for 24/7 operation for over 3 months without requiring operator intervention.
